Unfortunately, yes. If you are convicted of DUI or DWI in Virginia, you will be ordered to complete VASAP. That basically means that you have to do whatever they say. In some cases, that includes Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The court normally won’t tell VASAP the specifics of what your program should include.
I always tell my DUI clients that it’s important to keep your VASAP case manager happy. In my opinion, that will help you far more than arguing about the specific programs to the judge.
